The event, which was held for the first time outside the UK, afforded members of the alumni living in West Africa  the opportunity to exchange ideas and update themselves on latest development plans of the university.

Some members of the alumni from West Africa are Mr Charles Tettey; the immediate past Managing Director of Barclays Bank, Mr Benjamin Dabrah; the immediate past Managing Director of Merchant Bank, Mr Peter Illiasu; and  the Chief Executive Officer of Legacy Capital, Mr Mark Opoku.

Others are the Chief Executive Officer of the Mutual Health Trust,  Mr Percy Ansah; Mr  Kojo Ayittey, Lecturer; and  the Director of Marketing; and Sales of the  SICLife, Mr Albert Bahun-Wilson.

Prior to the conference, a delegation from the university which visited Ghana met Professor Ellis E. Badu of the University of Ghana Library to discuss future partnership projects of the HAA and the University of Ghana.

At the meeting, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Hull for Engagement, Professor Ian Pashby, said the university was keen on engaging students globally, and moving the meeting to Ghana this year reaffirmed that decision.

"The Hull Alumni Association actively develops its relationship with alumni across the world, with 120,000 alumni living worldwide, and we are grateful many of you living and working in Ghana were able to join us," he said.

He said the opportunity to engage with graduates and to meet with higher education partners in West Africa was meant to look at future opportunities together.

The President of the Alumni Association, Liam Cotter, said Ghanaian students had been part of the University of Hull since the very beginning, and had gone on to be among its proudest alumni.

"We in turn are very proud of all of you here, so I am delighted our first annual general meeting to be held outside of the UK is being held here in Ghana. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet our former students and celebrate their success, but also to look forward to even closer relationships with our friends in West Africa,” he added.

For his part, the President of Hull Alumni Ghana, Mr Albert Bahun-Wilson, stated that they were grateful to be hosting the fourth annual general meeting of the Hull Alumni Association  in Ghana and that they wished to support the university’s strategic objectives. He added that they were willing to enhance the awareness of the university here in Ghana to encourage potential students to consider applying to Hull University to assist in recruitment avenues and to offer them with mentoring support.
