The resource person for the programme, Mr Alex Wiafe of the Counselling and Placement Centre of the University of Ghana, educated the girls on the difference between a job, work and career.

He urged them to consider their values, interest, abilities and personality which he said were  four key things in the choice of a career.

Mr Wiafe said in addition to the knowledge they were acquiring through their school curricula, they needed to acquire critical skills in an language, typing, driving and ICT and cautioned against the practice where parents unilaterally decided the professions of their children.

During the breakup sessions, the students had the opportunity to interact with the HOPSA ’88 members present and asked career-related as well as personal questions.

The HOPSA ’88 members present included Justice Mrs Doreen Agyei-Boakye, High Court Judge; Dr Maame Yaa Nyarko, Pediatrician and Head of Clinical Service, Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital; Mrs Lorraine Gyan, Assistant Registrar, University of Professional Studies, Accra and Mrs Jocelene Buckman, Director of the Counselling and Placement Centre, University of Ghana.

Others were Mrs Ayesha-Andrea Apedoe, CEO, Management & International Educational Consultancy, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Head of the Linguistics Department, University of Ghana and Mrs Sedinam C. Mammara, HRM Practitioner, Cocoa Marketing Company.

The programme was in fulfilment of a five-year commitment the group made last year during their 25th anniversary celebrations.

The Headmistress of the School, Rev. Sister Josephine Anto, expressed her gratitude to the ’88 year group for their commitment to the career development of the young ladies.
