‘Help instil good morals, values in students’

The third and fifth graduation and matriculation ceremonies of the Agogo Presbyterian Nursing and Midwifery Training College have taken place simultaneously at Agogo, with a call on all stakeholders to collaborate with the management of the school to instil good morals and values in the students.

The Principal of the college, Mrs Florence Gans-Lartey, who made the call in a welcome address, disclosed that out of the 88 referred students who sat for the licensing examination in March, 2013, 75 of them,  representing 85.2 per cent, were successful and described the results as an achievement.

Graduating students

She congratulated the graduands on their success, noting that they represented the hope and promise of the institution, the Presbyterian Church and the nation and, therefore, should ensure that whatever they did was exemplary.

While commending the tutors of the college for their hard work, commitment and dedication to duty, she also encouraged them to update their knowledge and skills in their fields of specialisation so that they could use appropriate teaching strategies that would facilitate learning among students.

Matriculants

On the matriculation, she said 2,528 application forms were received for 2013/2014 admission and out of that number, 2,012 candidates, comprising 659 males and 1,353 females, qualified for nursing, while 78 candidates also qualified for midwifery.

The principal assured them that they had chosen a noble profession, adding that their training was part of the strategies to achieve the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) so they must take it seriously.

Expansion works

Mrs Gans-Lartey expressed concern about the delay of an 80-capacity female hostel and four-unit classroom block which was started in 2005, but had not  yet been completed.

She said the project was now 80 per cent complete and that electrical fittings and plumbing works were the remaining work to be done. She, therefore, called for the speedy execution of the project to ease congestion.

Reverend Twum-Barimah, the Asante-Akyem Presbytery Chairman, commended the graduands for successfully completing the course and advised them to be good ambassadors of the school and the  Presbyterian Church.

Nana Badu-Kakyire, the Nifahene of Agogo, who represented Nana Kwame Akuoko Sarpong, Omanhene of Agogo Traditional Area, as the chairman for the occasion, commended the Presbyterian Church for its contribution to health and educational development in the Agogo area.
