Head of State Award Scheme gets new board

An 11-member board of trustees has been inaugurated in Accra to oversee the growth and sustainability of the Head of State Award (HoSA) Scheme. It is a voluntary governance body which is expected to serve a five-year term of office to ensure the sustenance of the award programme through the National Award Authority.

President’s address

In a speech read on his behalf, President John Dramani Mahama, said the task of the board was very vital because youth development was crucial to national development.

“You are charged with a vital responsibility which is essential for the nation’s development”, he told the members.

He said the board’s use of the scheme to confront the issues of the youth would determine the degree of the significance of their contributions to national development.

Advice

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Mahama Ayariga, who is also a patron of the HoSA, urged members of the board to do their best to improve the award scheme even in the face of financial challenges.

He promised the ministry’s support for the board in its effort to achieve its mandate.

“I assure you that we will continue to work with you to enhance your capability to discharge your duties,” he said.

Sacrifice

The Chairperson of the board, Mr Henry Morgan Minski, encouraged his colleagues to sacrifice their time and resources to sustain and improve the scheme.

He also urged them to prepare to surmount challenges that would come their way during the tenure of the board.

Mr Minski said their tenure would be successful if they worked together as a team all the time and expressed optimism that their performance would be exceptional.
