In view of this, the school has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the hospital to support the adopted ward with medical facilities and equipment and further said the project would become an annual activity.

The Director of the School, Ms Nikitta Adjikor, explained that the move was due to the interest the school had in the development of children.

She said children ought to be given all the necessary support to enable them to thrive.

“We are glad that we have made this initiative. After adopting the ward, we are going  to fund its needs and ensure that it gets all the necessary support that it deserves,” she added.

Get-together

The occasion was also used to organised a get together for patients at the hospital, an annual event that was initiated by the school two years ago.

Known as the Messengers of Peace programme, the annual event is aimed at making patients at the hospital feel at home and also have fun.

This year’s event was on the theme: “You are not alone” and it included story-telling, musical performances, poetry recital and other fun-packed activities.

Staff and students of the school also went round the various wards in the hospital to distribute candies, Christmas cards and other gift items.

According to Ms Adjikor, the get-together provides the school with an opportunity to spread love during this festive season.

“Love is the most important thing to give during this period. We, therefore, decided to show these lovely kids that no matter their condition, they could still experience love and also have some fun,” she stated.

The Founder of the school, Madam Jemima Nartey, also reiterated the school’s commitment to support the growth and development of children that it came into contact with.

For her part, the Principal Nursing Officer of the hospital, Mrs Josephine Opoku, thanked the school for its support and encouraged other institutions to follow suit.
