The students are pursuing programmes in engineering, informatics and business IT. About 1,300 students took the matriculation oath at the Accra campus of the college.

In addition to the existing programmes, the GTUC has introduced other programmes in collaboration with its international partners for the 2013/2014 academic year. These are PhD, masters and bachelor programmes. Speaking at the function, the President of the GTUC, Dr Osei K Darkwa, quoted Martin Luther King Jr as saying that “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically”.

He congratulated the matriculants and added that the GTUC wanted them to be critical thinkers, creative and innovative persons. He added that he, together with his staff, was ready to provide them with the tools to enable them to achieve this vision.

“Matriculation, as you know, is you stepping forward to announce your readiness to accept the challenges that come with the pursuit of knowledge, and to take it upon yourself the responsibility to uphold the name of the university college in everything you do, both on and off campus, and through your own varied achievements to bring your alma mater further honour and fame,” he stressed.

Dr Darkwa added that more Ghanaians wanted to access quality education from the GTUC and this was a testament to how the college had grown in the last few years.

"The increasing demand for the GTUC programmes and courses calls for investment and aid with regards\ to infrastructure and innovation in terms of programmes and projects.

To this end, we solicit support from individuals and corporate Ghana to be able to deliver on pending projects," Dr Darkwa concluded.
