The metropolitan, municipal and district directorates of education in the region received the items on behalf of schoolchildren in their respective jurisdictions.

Quantity

Thirty-three thousand, three hundred and six of the uniforms are for boys, while the remaining 14,827 are for girls.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly received 6,333 uniforms, made up of 4,306 for boys and 2,027 for girls, representing the highest number, while the Adentan Municipal Assembly received 2,000, made up of 1,200 for boys and 800 for girls, representing the least.

Purpose
The school uniforms form part of the government’s social intervention strategy to make education accessible to all schoolchildren.

The regional directorate also presented a first consignment of 1,092 school registers to newly created districts in the region.

Presenting the items, Mrs Boakye-Yiadom said it was the wish of the Ministry of Education that poverty should not be a barrier to education.

She was hopeful that the presentation would boost enrolment in schools in the various assemblies and also increase retention.

Gratitude
Responding on behalf of the recipients, the Accra Metro Director of Education, Mrs Angela Tena Mensah, thanked the government and the Ghana Education Service (GES) for the presentation.

She gave an assurance that the items would be given to the children and expressed the confidence that the uniforms would attract more children to school.
