Graduates urged to constantly upgrade their knowledge

A senior lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Dr Hippolyt Dickson Angbing, has urged new graduates of the Institute for Caregivers (IFC) in Accra, to use the Internet to constantly upgrade their knowledge through various courses available, both in and outside the country.

Speaking recently at the 40th graduation ceremony of the school, Dr Angbing appealed to the graduates to adopt multiple teaching techniques in order to satisfactorily cater for children with hearing and visual impairments, slow learners and those with other forms of learning disabilities.

IFC is a private teacher training institute established in 1999 and its main focus has been to train high quality professionals in the early childhood education sector and the childcare industry.

Fifty-eight graduates

In all, 58 students graduated with certificates in Early Childhood Education, and Care and Proprietor Management.

The General Manager of IFC, Mrs Elizabeth Reindorf, said children were very delicate and complex and there was the need for them to be handled by professionals so that they would grow to achieve their full potential in life.

“Skill development and proper childhood care is the bedrock of quality education and IFC is committed to producing first-rate caregivers and preschool teachers at all times,” she stated.

She said the institute had rolled out plans to partner some institutions of higher learning to ensure that standards set for the school were not compromised while making it easier for graduates of the institute to move on to such institutions to upgrade their knowledge and skills.
