Graduates advised to enter entrepreneurship

An international motivational speaker, Mr Albert Ocran, has challenged young graduates to see themselves as equally capable of managing their own businesses.

He said since the job market was too small to accommodate the over 350,000 fresh graduates  who entered the job market yearly, the best viable opportunity for young graduates was for them to enter entrepreneurship.

Speaking at the graduation and matriculation ceremony of Knutsford University College in Accra, Mr Ocran, who is also the Chief Executive of Combert Impression, said in order to excel in the job market, there was the need for young graduates to transmit their God-give talents into “sellable ideas and concepts.”

In all, 96 students graduated, having pursued four and two-year degree and diploma courses respectively.

The Best All-Round Student Award went to Ms Rita Owusu Ansah.

Matriculation

At the same function, 225 fresh students also matriculated, after having gained admission to pursue various courses in the school.

Students were made to take the matriculation oath which mandated them to abide by the rules and regulations governing the institution.

Mr Ocran said most young people who entered into divers businesses failed to gain the required grounds as a result of their lack of commitment and focus to push up their dreams and visions.

“They, therefore, blame the government, friends and even their family for their failure to meet their targets,” he said.

About the University

The President of Knutsford University College, Prof. Robert Ampomaah, said the school, since it establishment, had produced responsible and disciplined graduates who occupied various positions in recognised institutions in the country.

According to him, in spite of challenges faced by the university, “Our mission of educating and developing talents for individual and societal welfare is on course”, adding “our vision of becoming a world-class model institution is steadily being achieved”.

Mr Ampomaah said efforts and plans were being made by the management of the university to run more programmes, particularly in science and the humanities.

He also mentioned that plans were underway for the establishment of a satellite campus in Kumasi, adding “this project was done in anticipation and readiness to absorb the students overflow in the 2013/2014 academic year.
