She said putting square pegs in round holes was only drawing the country backwards in its growth agenda, as a result of inefficiency.

The minister was speaking at the 64th graduation ceremony of the Government Secretarial School (GSS) in Accra on Friday. One hundred and fifty students graduated.

It was on the theme: “Professional secretarial education: a critical tool for national development.” The ceremony also marked the inauguration of a 26-room hostel.

Future enrolments

Mrs Ampofo further urged the management of the school to admit persons with disability (PWDs) in its future enrolments to enable them to acquire employable skills and abilities.

“It is these successes that keep their hope of a better future alive. It is a reminder of what we can achieve as a nation when we focus on human resource improvement, especially among the vulnerable,” she said.

The minister charged the graduates to go into the world and raise the bar of secretarial work. She urged them to be a positive influence to those around them at all times and be sure to make their workplace better than they would find it.
