The beneficiaries were made up of 20 tertiary and 10 senior high students who faced financial challenges in the payment of their academic user fees.

So far, the assembly has provided financial assistance to about 150 students in the district to enable them to pursue higher education at the senior high and tertiary levels.

At a short presentation ceremony, the District Chief Executive for Gomoa West, Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, said the assembly received 77 applications from students who needed financial assistance totalling GH¢80,000, but managed to select 30 out of the number to support them, due to its financial status.

According to him, the assembly had committed itself to set aside part of its District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) to support some students in the district, as a means of building human resource for the development of the area, indicating that the initiative was in line with the government’s policy to reduce the burden on parents by supporting them in providing quality education to their children.

He stressed that the assembly would sustain the programme to ensure that more students benefited.

The district chief executive charged the beneficiaries to study hard to justify the huge investments the government was making in their education, adding: “The assembly would monitor the beneficiaries in their respective institutions to ensure value for money.’’
