‘Go beyond teachers’ lesson notes’

Circuit supervisors of the Ghana Education Service (GES) have been told to go beyond assessing the performance of teachers based solely on the lesson notes.

The Principal of the Agogo Presbyterian College of Education, Mrs Gladys Appiah, said such a practice was not only making teachers lazy but also affecting the academic performance of their students.

 She was speaking at the 90th anniversary celebration of Juansah Presbyterian Primary and Junior High Schools at Juansah in the Asante-Akim North District.

Mrs Appiah said the situation where many of them prepared notes just for inspection while they showed complete disregard for practical and effective teaching methodology must radically change.

The supervisors must pay particular attention to how effectively teachers were able to deliver their lessons in the classroom, she said, and added that it required scrutinising the notes of teachers with reference to their methods of teaching and the number of exercises given to their students.

She appealed to all stakeholders to accept to make selfless contribution and play their roles well to raise the quality of education.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Daniel Osei, spoke about the determination of the Asante Akim North District Assembly to commit more resources towards the development of education. He said the assembly would work hard to make sure  education was accessible to all and also enforce the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) in the district. — GNA
