‘Give priority to children’s welfare’

Parents have been advised to give priority to the welfare of their children to help them grow to become responsible adults.

The Headmistress of the Christ the King International School in Accra, Rev Jessie Quist, who made the call, said parents often neglected  the basis of children’s development, which is the the most important aspect of their lives,  and that affected them in the long run.

She explained that for the past two years that she had been in the school, her major challenge had been lack of corporation from some parents.

“They are always talking about discipline but they are not helping us inculcate the discipline into the children,” she added.

Sr. Quist was speaking to the Daily Graphic after a ceremony to commemorate the school’s 85th founders’ day and launch of a movie dubbed, “World Unfair” in Accra.

To mark the day, students dressed in traditional Ghanaian attires to celebrate the rich culture and diversity of Ghana.

Graced by renowned actors such as Messrs John Dumelo and Ekow  Smith-Asante, the occasion was characterised by music and cultural performances from  Christ the King drama group and choir.

Importance of founders’ day 

Outlining the importance of the founders’ day, Sr. Quist said the school could not have come this far if not for the hard work and vision of the founders.

“We celebrate it to remind ourselves of what the founders did and what we can also do to impact society positively,” Sr. Quist noted. 

Launching the movie 

Launching the movie, Mr Dumelo, who is an alumnus of the school, urged the students to take their studies seriously.

He indicated that his career as an actor began at the school, and advised that they take extracurricular activities also serious.

 Mr Dumelo pledge his unflinching support to the school in subsequent productions. 

“World Unfair” 

Miss Mabel Aggor, the Drama Teacher of the school and writer of “World Unfair” said the movie talks about parental neglect in society, and advised parents to spend quality time with their children. 

She further explained that emotional development of children was very vital to their future wellbeing, and urged parents to attend to children’s emotional needs.
