Gimpa starts course on GMAT
The Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) has begun a three-week course to prepare young graduates who plan to undertake the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT).

The test is a standardised admission examination used by over 6,000 graduate programmes offered by about 1,500 universities or institutions in about 110 countries as part of the selection criteria for graduate admission.
The programme, which is being done in collaboration with the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) and Unique Enterprise, is aimed at increasing the level of awareness for the GMAT in Ghana and also help improve the representation and performance of Ghanaians in the GMAT.
Currently, only two per cent of Africans undertake the GMAT, with majority of them failing the test.
GMAT programme
Speaking to the Daily Graphic, a lectuer, Mr Bob Swinson, said apart from the low representation of GMAT in Africa, most of the students failed because they underestimated the test.
According to him, GMAT was quite different from the conventional tests to which graduates were accustomed, adding that GMAT was a test of higher reasoning skills that assessed one’s ability to think and reason.
Mr Swinson observed that the GMAT programme entailed more than just answering questions, as it dealt more with critical analysis.
He said students in Ghana could gain admission to reputable and high-ranking universities in the world by passing the GMAT, adding, “It takes time to learn and master the programme.”
Higher education
The Chief Executive Officer of Unique Enterprise, Mr Daniel Kolubah, underscored the need for young graduates pursuing higher education to upgrade their knowledge levels.
He, therefore, urged Ghanaians to take advantage of the GMAT programme, since it would equip them to apply for international job vacancies and top positions locally.
