The figure represents over 100 per cent increase in enrolment, compared to last year when 800 students gained admission to the institution.

Speaking at the matriculation ceremony in Accra, the Deputy Rector of GIMPA, Dr Samuel Nii Noi Ashong, attributed the rise in enrolment to the introduction of day programmes for students and the intake of senior high school leavers.

“After successfully piloting the intake of fresh students from the senior high school (SHS), we have been able to put in place effective mechanisms to accommodate both fresh students from SHS and mature students,” he said.

Dr Ashong said the students would pursue degree programmes in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Human Resource Management, Marketing, and Hospitality and Tourism Management.

Other programmes being pursued are Operations and Supply Chain Management, Procurement Management, Project Management, Economics, Information and Communications Technology and Computer Science.

GIMPA’s Strategic Plan

According to Dr Ashong, over the past years, GIMPA had trained students for the global markets, paving the way for graduates from the institutions to secure jobs in various fields.

“We also intend to put in place measures to enhance the academic delivery in the school and upgrade the infrastructure to boost the activities of students,” he said.

According to Dr Ashong, plans are advanced to construct a multi-vendor cafeteria for the institute and improve the Information and Communication Technology.

He added that GIMPA’s experienced lecturers were well prepared to assist students to deepen their knowledge and understanding, and indicated that GIMPA had established campuses in Kumasi, Takoradi and Tema to enable more people to have access to its services.

Advice to students

Dr Ashong warned students against indulging in negative practices that had the tendency to prevent them from achieving  their future ambition.

He mentioned examination malpractices, indecent dressing and laziness as major destructive behaviours that could hamper the development of an individual.

“You must pursue higher academic standard and adhere to positive conducts that would project the image of the institution and your country,” he advised.
