Mr Newton spent 16 years at the institute, both as a lecturer and rector.

The event brought together students, lecturers, friends, family members and well-wishers to celebrate one of the longest-serving rectors of the institute.

To show their love and appreciation to the outgoing rector, various gifts and a citation were presented to him.

The Council of GIJ, chaired by Mr Berifi Apenteng, presented a 43-inch liquid crystal display (LCD) television set, among other items, to Mr Newton.

In addition to that, the GIJ branch of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) presented Mr Newton with a citation, acknowledging his works and achievements for the GIJ.

Dedication and hard work

In a short address, Mr Apenteng described the outgoing rector as a hardworking man who dedicated all his life to the service of GIJ.

He lauded Mr Newton’s achievements, saying that he had taken the school to a higher pedestal.

“GIJ is growing so we need more hands to do the work,” Mr Apenteng said.

Mr Newton thanked the council and management and encouraged his successor, Dr Wilberforce Sefakor Dzisah, to also put in his best.
