The Head Teacher of the Apostolic Junior High School (JHS), Mr Kwasi Nimo, said this was necessary  to improve on academic performance, indicating that everything should be done to motivate, encourage and keep the classroom teachers “on their toes”.

Addressing a press conference in Kumasi, he also appealed to the Education Ministry to consider lifting the ban on extra classes in basic schools.

Syllabus

This, he noted, would enable the teachers and students to effectively and fully cover the syllabus, stressing that that was vital to assure the students of excellent performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

He added that there was the need to ensure that candidates adequately prepared for examination, pointing out that the three-year duration of the JHS did not provide enough time for this.

Mr Nimo, however, suggested that the extra classes must be well structured to ensure that students did not become overly exhausted.
