The new office, valued at GH¢585,000, was constructed with funding from the USAID and the Government of Ghana.

Inaugurating the building, Prof. Naana Opoku-Agyemang noted that the objective of the intervention was to augment the government’s support for infrastructural development in the educational sector with the view to strengthening the decentralisation process of education management at both regional and district levels.

Purpose

She maintained that the office would provide an efficient education management which would invariably influence the number of children going to school in the district as well as the number of children passing their examinations.

She said, “The pass rate of our children should be our concern and the numbers that attain higher education should be our primary goal. A more decentralised educational system will lead to an expected rise in enrolment at all levels, and for all learners, regardless of their economic background.”

Endorsement

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang announced that the government had endorsed the establishment of a National Teaching Council and the National Inspectorate Board to supervise the effectiveness of teaching in schools, adding that the curricula development was also undergoing reviews to ensure that teaching and learning were more relevant and commensurate with the changing trends in education.

She charged the district education directorate to develop a comprehensive maintenance culture for the facility.

The Director of Funds and Procurement Management Unit (FPMU) of the Ministry of Education, Dr Felix Amoakoh, was particularly thankful to the USAID for funding similar projects in some deprived districts throughout the country at the cost of US$ 19.7 million with US$ 2.6 million counterpart funding from the Government of Ghana.

The District Chief Executive for Kintampo South, Mr Datiakwa Kojo Nyame, described the successful completion of the office complex as a milestone in education in the district and said he was highly optimistic that it would contribute largely to the delivery of quality education in the district.
