This was after the Textbook and Educational Equipment Committee (TEEC), through the Curriculum Research and Development Division (CRDD) of the GES, had assessed the book.

“The book is recommended as a supplementary reader for senior high schools, technical/vocational institutes, colleges of education and for general readership,” a letter signed by the Director of CRDD, Mrs Cynthia Bosumtwi-Sam, said.

The 118-page book is authored by Dr Alfred B. Cudjoe, a lecturer at the Department of French Education at the University of Education, Winneba.

Author

He told the Daily Graphic that the book stressed the historical background to the political situation in Africa today.

“We have gone through military regimes and all that. Now because of our desire to be accepted in the civilised world we have accepted the concept of multi-party democracy.”

Dr Cudjoe said the youth needed to be given a tool to take active part in such healthy debate since they were voters and potential voters, pointing out that, “I am a lecturer in the university and I see the youth as the most sensitive part of the country.”

Launch

The book was launched in Accra by the Chairman of the National Media Commission (NMC), Mr Kabral Blay-Amihere.

Mr Blay-Amihere remarked that the novel was going to prove useful to the country’s electoral system and future generations, since it chronicled events that characterised elections in Africa.
