The deplorable nature of the old school block, which is evidently seen as a death trap to the pupils, has discouraged many parents in the farming community  from allowing their children to go to school.

According to Nana Sarfo Kantanka, Awerempemhene of Bomaa, the school block has not seen any renovation for decades.

But, he said, thanks to the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB), which has intervened and accepted the responsibility to construct modern classroom blocks for the pupils.

He said, In addition, the bank will provide places of convenience for boys and girls, offices and stores, as well as recreational and sanitary facilities.

The bank came to the intervention of the school through the efforts and initiative of Mrs Freda Prempeh, Member of Parliament (MP) for Tano North.

Mrs Thyra Obuobi, Head of the Corporate Affairs Department of the GCB,  and Mr Kojo Kwarteng her deputy,  together with Mrs Prempeh visited and assessed the  situation at the school  at Bomaa over the wekend.

Mrs Obuobi emphasised that though the bank had no branch in the community, education remained one of its key areas, and it would do everything possible to ensure that a conducive and more congenial environment was created to promote effective teaching and learning at the school.

She said very soon the bank would commence work on the project,  and appealed to the community to also support through communal labour activities.

Mrs Prempeh thanked the bank for the prompt response to the needs of the school,  and was optimistic that it would extend such support to other communities.

She noted that though there had been a delay in the release of the MPs Common Fund,  that should not be a yardstick to deny the children their basic rights.

Mrs Prempeh assured the people that the remaining portion of the Bomaa-Duayaw-Nkwanta road, as well as the Yamfo-Ayiayem-Atudorobesa road, would soon be re-gravelled.

Although, the MP said it was not the mandate of the legislature to construct roads, “Parliament cannot overlook certain basic needs of her constituents.”

Mrs Prempeh advised the communities to renew their communal spirit, initiate self-help development projects, to attract the support of civil society groups and non-governmental organisations.
