The project was financed by the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) at a cost of GH¢40,000 as part of its social responsibility.

The school block comprises  two classrooms, a sleeping room, a bathroom, a kitchen, a place of convenience, an office and a store and furnished with chairs and tables for teachers and pupils.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mr Simon Dornoo, the Managing Director of GCB, said the project was occasioned by a May 1, 2012 Daily Graphic publication on the plight of the 110 pupils of the school studying under disaster-prone dilapidated structure which affected the development of kindergarten education in the school.

GCB community projects

He said the GCB’s commitment to contribute to the well-being of society had been amply demonstrated over the years.

Mr Dornoo said last year it spent GH¢2.6 million on community-related programmes, out of which more than GH¢2 million went into education aimed at promoting quality education in the country.

He said providing educational infrastructure, which was part of the 60th anniversary of the bank, would enhance opportunities for children in the community to pursue higher education.

He said as part of the anniversary, the bank was constructing a number of boreholes in different parts of the country to provide potable water for the people, especially those living in remote communities.

Mr John Oscar Kintor, the Ahafo Ano South District Director of Education, said kindergarten was the foundation of education and, therefore, the effort by GCB to construct a kindergarten block for the school was a big relief to the district directorate of education.

Nana Kwaku Akyempontia II, the Chief of Abrenyase, who chaired the function, commended the management of GCB for its timely support and called for continued support in the areas of scholarship packages and other educational logistics.
