Galaxy School inaugurates building for secondary education

The Minister of Education, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman, has lauded the contribution of private educational institutions to the country’s drive towards quality education.

She said private schools continued to provide access to education for many people at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels making them a crucial player in the country’s education sector.

“The Ministry of Education through the Ghana Education Service has collaborated with the private sector in the delivery of quality education in Ghana. This contribution and partnership are greatly acknowledged and appreciated by the government,’’ she said.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang was speaking at the opening of the secondary school section of Galaxy International School on the school’s premises at Adjiringano, near Accra in the Adentan municipality in the Greater Accra Region.

Apart from the secondary school, the school also has preschool and primary sections located in other parts of Accra.

She praised the school for its accomplishments over the years.

“Currently, the school has over 345 of its graduates  studying in different universities across the globe and serving as good ambassadors of Ghana as well as their own nations. Also, since its inception in 2001, the school has represented Ghana in many international olympiads and have brought home more than 45 medals,” she said.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang stated that with the right support and environment, students from  the private and public schools that were not doing well academically could improve on their academic performance.

“That is why we need peace on our educational front. All stakeholders have to use dialogue to resolve their grievances,” she stated.

Quality assurance

On ways of improving the standard of private schools, Professor Opoku-Agyemang mentioned that the government through the GES would continue to improve upon the quality assurance mechanism for the establishment of private education institutions , adding  “it is the responsibility of the government to monitor private schools to ensure that they provide the educational services that meet the prescribed standards.’’

 For his part, the Managing Director of Galaxy International School, Mr Yusuf Temizkan, said the  the school epitomised the cultural diversity of the country, stating  “the school is home to students from different countries that are taught the universal values of love, tolerance and inclusiveness.”
