He said the school had been and was still a dynamic institution dedicated to achieving the very best in secondary education by preparing students for leadership roles through the employment of innovative systems and rich learning resources.

He made the statement at the launch of the 60th anniversary celebration of the school at Akropong-Akuapem.

The activities include games, home-coming of past students, dinner dance among others with the climax in February next year.

Mr Afari said the school, established on February 8, 1957, had achieved significant progress on virtually every front and had a positive image in the Ghanaian society.

"There is evidence of a great many past students in the top hierarchy of society and in many areas of the country's development. Many of our past students are occupying positions of trust in the country and these include journalists, accountants, pharmacists, teachers, auditors and lawyers," he added.

Commendation

He commended past students of the school for contributing immensely towards the development of the school and said the “institution's success has not come on a silver platter, since it has taken the sacrifices of the founder members, chiefs, former headmasters and staff and many others to bring the school to its current state. We congratulate all those who have contributed to the growth and sustenance of this school."

Mr Afari said the school was facing a number of challenges which included the delay in the completion of the renovation works of the school's science resources centre and laboratory, since it was hampering effective teaching and learning of Science, especially practical lessons.

He, therefore, appealed to the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service to award all outstanding works on contract.

He said the road leading to the school was also in a deplorable state while the erection of a wall for the school was also delaying, and appealed for support in that respect.

Academic performance

Mr Afari said notwithstanding the challenges, the school had made steady progress over the years in all spheres of education, including sports,  the arts, sciences, culture and the National Science and Mathematics quiz competition.

The national President of the Old Students’ Association of the school, Mr John Attafuah, urged past students to participate fully in the anniversary celebration in order to make it a success. He also congratulated the 1992, 1993 and 1994 year groups on giving the school’s administration block a facelift.

A former headmaster of the school, Mr E. Offei-Awuku, expressed happiness that the school had trained people who were successfully contributing to the development of the country.
