Forge links with international institutions – Prof. Kuupole

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Professor Downini Dabire Kuupole, has urged tertiary institutions to team up and form a strong alliance with international institutions, in order to provide quality education.

“Such partnerships would create universities and other tertiary institutions of international standing to meet the needs of employers and make quality education and training a lifelong thing accessible at all levels”, he said.

Speaking at the fifth congregation of the Jayee University College (JUC) held in Accra on Saturday, Prof.  Kuupole said higher education institutions in Ghana should lay a solid foundation for teaching, learning and research that would lead to the requisite job creation and productivity.

A total of 421 students who have undergone four or two-year courses in Communication Science and Business Administration, were awarded various degrees and diplomas.

This year’s ceremony which coincided with the 25th anniversary celebration of the institution, had the theme: “Twenty-six years of human capacity building: The way forward”.

Nineteen awards comprising citations and other prizes were given to students who excelled in their respective courses.

Prof. Kuupole said since education constituted the core process in developing the knowledge of an individual, there was the need for such training to be sharply shaped to correspond to the ever-changing business and industrial needs.

Another key indicator which Prof. Kuupole mentioned as a major constituent to achieving robust economic growth and sound social system, was investment in human capital.

According to him, even though other resources were equally significant in ensuring national growth, human resource was the driving force in any venture.

“However, it is not sufficient to create but also manage and maintain human capital as well as transform and constantly upgrade skills of the human resource to meet the new requirements of knowledge-based economy,” Prof. Kuupole said.

In his welcome address, the President and Founder of JUC, Mr John Emmanuel Donkoh, said since the university college was established  26 years ago, over 5,000 people had graduated and were working in the field of business and communication.

In order to remain on track in the human resource development enterprise in Ghana, he said, JUC recently revised its curriculum to make it consistent with the changing social, economic and political fronts.

According to Mr Donkoh, the rationale of the revision was to enable the university to combine education and training with values and principles so as to make a meaningful and sustainable impact in the country’s economy.

In his advice to the graduands, Mr Donkoh urged them to allow honesty, passion and commitment to guide them in their chosen profession.
