First prize winners

The ultimate winners took home a trophy, certificate and GH¢1,000 while the second placed winners had a trophy, certificate and GH¢600 with the third placed winners taking a plaque, certificate and GH¢400.

Before the commencement of the competition, the Director of the NVTI, Mr Stephen Amponsah, said the competition brought together the best trainees from the training institutions.

He advised them to continue to demonstrate a high sense of discipline wherever they found themselves, as they did during the competition, adding, “You are coming from different training backgrounds and must always showcase what you have learnt”.

The Controller of Apprenticeship of NVTI, Ms Juliana Nkrumah, said the skills competition provided the platform for the industry to recruit skilled and competent labour force.

“To the training institutions, this adds up to their efforts on publicity, exhibition and advertising of their training programmes and activities. The trainees are able to develop their skills, innovations and creativities; they are also exposed to enhancing their talents and ability to solve real life problems,” she said.

Such competitions, she said, enabled trainees to appreciate quality, team building and networking, adding that “these participants are fortunate as they have the opportunity to participate in the initial NVTI policy of organising national skills and national sports competition  every other year”.
