With a student population of 120, the school, which belongs to a Turkish non-governmental organisation (NGO), was established in September 2012. The remaining 5 students who did not make the required pass mark will enjoy half scholarship.

According to the school’s Principal, Mr Mehmet Ozleyen, the scholarship is to provide the many deprived but brilliant students in the area the opportunity to meet their aspirations in life.

Mr Ozleyen made this known in Tamale during the Dagomba Week Celebration which was held at the forecourt of the school.

The Dagomba Week is celebrated by the school every year to portray the rich culture of the chiefs and people of Dagbon through drama, dancing and poetry recitals by some students.

Nation’s development

He said education formed a very important part of a nation’s development and therefore revealed his organisation’s readiness to sponsor the students even up to the tertiary level.

The Tamale Metropolitan Director of Education, Alhaji Saani Abdul Rahman, said the Northern region needed such philanthropists to help improve upon the education of students since a number of children of school age could not get the opportunities to go to school due to poverty.

He thanked the school for its immense contribution and revealed his institution’s readiness to support them whenever necessary.

Alhaji Abdul Rahman urged the students to take advantage of the opportunity by learning very hard to achieve greater heights in future.

A Junior High School (JHS) One pupil, Alhassan Ahmed, in an interview with the Daily Graphic, made a passionate appeal to philanthropists in the country to emulate what the school had done, since there were still people out there who also needed help.
