‘Failures are stepping stones to improvement’

The Paramount Chief of the Assin Owirenkyi Traditional Area, Ehunabobrim Prah Agyensaim VI, has urged young entrepreneurs to be strengthened by the failures they encounter when establishing their businesses.

According to him, failure was bound to occur when establishing a business, adding that it was a stepping stone to improvement.

“As an entrepreneur, the business world will not be so smooth, but you must be determined and optimistic,” the paramount chief said at the fifth graduation and matriculation ceremony of the Entrepreneurship Training Institute in Accra.

He said the government was not meant to create jobs but rather create a conducive atmosphere for entrepreneurs to operate to allow them to create jobs.

“The country is screaming very hard for infrastructure, water, quality health care and stable power,” he said, adding that the creativity of entrepreneurs could provide opportunity to develop the country.

Graduation

Ninety-seven qualified entrepreneurs, who had gone through courses such as early childhood education and English education with entrepreneurship, graduated at the ceremony while 165 students were admitted into the institute.

Out of the 97 graduands, 21 graduated with Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship while 27 were conferred with postgraduate diploma in Entrepreneurship and 43 with certificates in early childhood education.

Students who excelled were honoured. A Bachelor of Science student, Onwuneme Ifeanyi Chukwukwa, who was the only student to attain first class, was adjudged the Overall Best Student of the year.

Partnerships

The Rector of ETI, Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa, was highly optimistic that the graduates had received enough training to fit into the business world.

He charged them to use the business plans they had developed in school as a blueprint for starting their own businesses.

“The government will be counting on you to support its efforts in creating jobs for individuals to improve the economic situation,” he said.

According to him, the institute was aimed at providing a tertiary environment for educating entrepreneurs and also to offer varied professional education, as well as expand the development of human capital with entrepreneurial spirit.

To this end, he said the institute was in discussions with the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) for collaboration at both students and faculty levels.
