Enrol more females in community SHSs — Prez

President John Dramani Mahama has urged people within the catchment areas of the community day senior high schools (SHS ), to enrol more of their females in the schools.

Inaugurating the Takrowase Community Day SHS in the Denkyembour District in the Eastern Region yesterday, the President said: "I want to see as many females as possible enrol in the schools."

The school is expected to offer admission to 1,300 students at full capacity.

President Mahama stated  that the government placed premium on female education because that was the surest way of building a better future for the girl-child.

The Takrowase SHS is the 15th of the President's flagship education project to be inaugurated .

President Mahama gave the assurance that 42 of the schools would be ready for use this academic year, while 70 would be completed by the end of 2016.

He further stated that all the 200 community day SHSs that he promised would be completed by the end of his next term in 2021.

The E-shaped three-storey edifice at Takrowase has 24 classrooms, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, General Science and Information Communication Technology (ICT) laboratories, assembly hall, offices and a canteen.

Scores of people, including chiefs and queenmothers in the predominantly farming community and surrounding areas, attended the inauguration of the school.

Education budget

President Mahama said the government continued to spend one-third of the national budget on education because without quality education, the nation would be found wanting.

He said budgetary allocation would be made to provide teachers with accommodation for the Takrowase SHS in the next phase of the community day SHS development.

The Minister of Education, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, said no nation could talk about youth development without placing emphasis on education.

That explained why the ministry was working on programmes and projects to drive education forward, she said.

The Chief of Takrowase, Osabafima Owusu Nketiah, thanked the President for providing the area with the school.
