Ejura Agricultural College to be upgraded to award diploma certificates

The Ejura Agricultural College (EAC) is to be upgraded to award diploma certificates to students, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Samuel Sarpong has said.

He said the government was sourcing funds to improve physical infrastructural facilities of the college to meet the requirement of the National Accreditation Board (NAB).

Speaking at the matriculation ceremony and the 50th anniversary of the college at Ejura in the Ejura Sekyedumasi Municipality in the Ashanti Region, Dr Sarpong said the government was poised to provide financial and technical support to agricultural institutions, and also equip them to play a meaningful role in the production of raw materials to support the nation’s industrial growth.

The regional minister, therefore, tasked the management and students of the college to work hard to justify the investments being made and help come out with innovative measures that will assist farmers to “move beyond the  cutlass and hoe farming method, to mechanised agriculture in support of the country’s agricultural development.”

Technological innovation

He said, as Ghana’s economy was predominantly agricultural-based, adopting technological innovation was essential to make the desired impact in the sector.

He commended the college for putting in place the necessary measures to enhance the training of students in entrepreneurial skills to prepare them for the job market. He also lauded the management and students of the college for venturing into livestock production and mushroom cultivation.

Theme for the celebration

The Principal of the College, Mr Robert Ayamba, who spoke on the theme for the celebration, “The Agricultural Training College: Empowering the Youth with Entrepreneurial Skills for Self Employment,” said the college would continue to play an active role in providing answers to problems confronting the youth, stressing that in fulfilment of that vision, the college had redesigned its training programmes to include a one-year practical training for second-year students in the college’s farm institutes .

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, Alhaji Muhammad Bawah Braimah, in a brief remark, called on the private sector to partner the college to expand the Ejura Farms, adding that, such collaborations would create jobs for the teeming youth.
