The beneficiaries are made up of male and female students from selected senior and junior high schools in the country.

Social responsibility

The Relish Company Limited, that operates Relish Health Food Shops in Accra, contributed an amount of GH¢ 60,000.00 to mobilise resources for the scheme, as part of its social responsibility, to help students achieve thier dreams of becoming responsible citizens.

At a ceremony in Accra last Wednesday to award the scholarships to the beneficiaries, the Managing Director of the company, Mr Lawrence Addo, said education enhanced social mobility and improved peoples’ living standards, hence the need to ensure that needy and brilliant students got access to education, “so that we will not have a society where only the rich will be able to educate their wards.”

Corporate organisations

He said if such brilliant students were educated, they would be able to assist other members of their families for the benefit of society and, thus urged corporate organisations and other individuals to help give such students a fulfilled life by joining in the sponsorship scheme.

The Chairman of NPCT, Mr Roland Akosah, urged the beneficiaries to be serious with their studies in order to become responsible citizens. “The world is for those who are willing to study and for parents and teachers who are willing to support their children,’’ he said.

He advised parents and teachers to give of their best to ensure that the students excelled academically.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, a form three student of the Kaneshie Kingsway 1 Basic School, Lynne Tetteh, said she was happy to benefit from the scheme.
