The Lebanese Community in Ghana has awarded scholarships to eight second-year students of the Faculty of Law of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Mr Ali Halabi, the Ambassador of Lebanon in Ghana, said the scholarships formed part of a package of 30 scholarships so far granted by the Lebanese Community in Ghana as proof of its gratitude to Ghana and its people who received Lebanese migrants 130 years ago.
Beneficiaries
The beneficiaries are Ms Araba Sika Abaya, Ms Gloria Amoah, Ms Anita Osei, Ms Henrietta Wontaga, Mr Frederick Abu Bonsrah, Mr Rockson Tabiri Boahen, Mr Godfred Adjebeng and Nicholas Anane Adjei Lenin.
Already, the community has awarded scholarships to seven students of the Faculty of Law of the University of Ghana, Legon, and seven students of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ).
The students were selected based on their academic performance.
Mr Halabi expressed the hope that the beneficiaries would justify the confidence reposed in them and promised the Lebanese Community’s commitment to partner the Ghana Government to improve the human resource capacity in the country.
Prof. Ellis
Receiving the scholarship package on behalf of the students, Prof. W. O. Ellis, the Vice-Chancellor of the KNUST, said the university was appreciative of contributions by organisations and individuals towards the production of quality human resource.
He said human resource development was crucial for the development of every nation and, therefore, the efforts of the Lebanese Community in Ghana were well appreciated.
Prof. Ellis said any group or institution willing to partner the university was welcome.
