Education Expo opens next week

MORE than 40 exhibitors from various sectors, including book publishers, recreational centres, manufacturers, health and safety and culture, will take part in this year’s Extra and Co-Curricular Education Expo (ECCE 2015), scheduled to come off from October 2 -3, 2015 at the Aviation Social Centre, Accra.

The ECCE event is a conference and exhibition that is focused on the re-evaluation of basic education beyond the classroom and timetable.

A statement issued in Accra said the annual event, which had been running since 2013, stressed the importance of developing skills and qualities such as leadership, critical thinking, teamwork and communication skills among other qualities which were necessary for the Ghanaian child to become and remain competitive when compared to their peers in other countries.

British Airways is supporting the third edition of ECCE and the airline’s Commercial Manager for Ghana, Mr Kevin Leung, said the experience in handling children in the busy environment of an airport and within the enclosed space of an aircraft, much like managing children within a classroom or school, had given the airline a keen sense of the needs of children.

Special experience

“As with our other innovative and award-winning products, we have designed a very special experience for children who fly with us, covering everything including their safety, food and entertainment. We are always happy to support Ghana’s children in whatever way we can, and more importantly, we are keen to exchange important insights with all stakeholders on the best ways to support our children,” Mr Leung explains.

The Associate Consultant at Diffusion Ltd, organisers of the ECCE 2015 Expo, Mr Zoë Forson, expressed excitement about the support from BA and Teledata ICT.

“The event is in its third year, and we are pleased about the increasing interest over the years, especially from corporate organisations. This would be our biggest ever ECCE event, with many more schools and exhibitors taking part,” she said.

Previous ECCE events have focused on engaging heads and teachers in basic schools within the Accra-Tema metropolis, however, the organisers have expanded the scope of the event to enable basic schoolchildren to have a first-hand experience of the available products and services.
