The East Akim Municipal Education Directorate has blocked the August salaries of 60 headmasters.

They were said to have failed to submit the results of mock examination to the municipal education directorate on May 12, 2014, for study and analysis.

An Assistant Director of Education in charge of Supervision at the East Akim Education Directorate, Mr Lovelace Koranteng, told the Daily Graphic that the authorities were demanding the reports to ascertain the performance of the candidates prior to the candidates writing the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in June this year.

He explained that the directorate sent a reminder in June to the headmasters but only 23 heads out of those heading the 83 public basic schools in the municipality complied with the request.

Recalcitrance

"Again, for those who did not meet the deadline, we reminded them on July 25 but still they were adamant hence the decision to take such a punitive measure," Mr Koranteng added.

Mr Koranteng explained that the education directorate sought permission from the municipal assembly to levy the candidates and, therefore, wondered how "we are to report to the assembly if the headmasters have refused to submit their reports to us.

"We should not pamper people who do the wrong things. We work under people so directives must be obeyed...," he said.
