Explaining the importance of early childhood education, she said, it laid a strong foundation for the child’s future educational development.

The Metro Director, therefore, called on all stakeholders in the nation to contribute their quota towards supporting education at that level.

Mrs Mensah made the statement in an address read on her behalf by the Metro Early Childhood Education Co-ordinator, Mrs Victoria Mavis Erskine, during the 2nd graduation of the Nightingale Educational Complex at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

The school, established in 2006, is aimed at providing a comfortable and clean environment for children of working nursing mothers to enable them to focus on their jobs at their various work places.

Due to the school’s closeness to KATH, it would also provide the nursing mothers the opportunity to practise exclusive breastfeeding while on duty.

Mrs Mensah appealed to parents to be much more responsible in the upbringing of their children by providing them with all their needs.

The Supervisor of the school, Mrs Mary Agyapong, said the school which had 248 children on roll, had been upgraded from category B to category A by the Department of Social Welfare’s standards.

The chairman of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), Mr Richard Omari Sarfo, who chaired the function, commended staff and management of the school for their dedication and commitment towards the training of the children and urged them to continue the good works.
