Known in private life as Dr Kingsley A. Fletcher, the businessman and entrepreneur becomes the first chancellor of the university after the passage of the UPSA Act (Act 850) in October 2012, which made it autonomous.

Role as chancellor

The role of Drolor Adamtey as chancellor will, among others, include the conferment of degrees, diplomas and certificates awarded by the academic board of the university.

He will preside over ceremonies of the university and is also entitled to make presentations to the university council on matters relevant to the aims of the university as set out in the UPSA Act.

Endowment Fund

In his speech after his investiture last Saturday, Drolor Adamtey said the fund was meant to support a strategic leadership centre at the university.

“A very solid endowment policy will be put in place to strike a balance between providing a predictable and stable stream of revenue for current beneficiaries and increasing the purchasing power of the revenue stream for future beneficiaries,” he said.

He expressed the hope that the fund would contribute to the continued transformation of the university.

Internship programmes

Drolor Adamtey said he would also support an effective internship programme for all students of the university  before they graduated.

He urged the students to always seek higher academic pursuits and thanked all those who played a pivotal role in his appointment.

The Vice Chancellor of the UPSA, Professor Joshua Alabi, stated that the chancellor had brought to UPSA an impressive record of extensive academic, administrative and leadership experience to lead it, noting that the university stood to benefit immensely.

The chairman of the governing council of the UPSA, Mr Justice Nii Aryeetey, said the appointment of Drolor Adamtey was a monumental shift in the life of the university, and added that it would seek new pathways towards the achievement of its mandate.

He also expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the members of the council for their unflinching support and direction throughout the various stages of the university.
