Don’t use pupils as money-making agents - Principal cautions graduates

The Principal of the Fosu College of Education, Dr Nana Kwaku Asiedu, has cautioned newly trained teachers not to use pupils as money-making agents.

He said teachers were not supposed to use the pupils to trade, especially in the classroom, at the expense of contact hours.

In an interview after the 9th graduation ceremony of the college, Dr Asiedu said teachers must aim at maximising contact hours of pupils for enhanced learning output.

Graduates

A total of 364 of regular students of the college graduated, with six scoring first class, while 99 got second class upper and 153 second class. Ninety-nine had third class, while 18 had passes.

Two hundred and sixty-seven others from the Untrained Teacher Diploma in Basic Education (UTDBE) programme also graduated.

Dr Asiedu indicated that maximising contact hours was crucial and stressed that teachers should not use lesson hours to sell toffees and other things to the pupils.

He charged the newly graduated teachers to also serve as role models in the communities they would be posted to.

“Improve on your teaching methods now that you are diplomat holders,” he added.

Feeding grants

Dr Asiedu said though it was the responsibility of the government to feed the students, delays occurred over the payment of these grants.

“When this happens, parents must support to keep the colleges running,” he said.

He said confusion between students and the school authorities over feeding grants was needless and appealed to all stakeholders to cooperate to ensure the smooth running of the colleges.

Best students

The Best Graduating Student, Ms Bernice Dedaa, on behalf of her mates, pledged that they would work hard to change the quality of education at the basic school.
