‘Don’t give up on disciplining children’

THE Headmistress of the Light of the World School Complex, Mrs Esther Hamilton, has called on parents and guardians not to relent in their efforts to ensure that their children and wards are disciplined.

That, she said, was because discipline was key in the growth and development of children.

“Discipline is the core of moral and academic life. One needs morale and academic discipline to excel in life as a whole,” she said at the school’s graduation and thanksgiving service to thank God for the performance of its candidates in the 2015 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Results

According to the school’s BECE results for this year, 10 students had nine ones; 12 , eight ones; 23, seven ones; 13, six ones; 12, five ones; two students, four ones and another two, three ones. They were each presented with a certificate.

Before the event started, the graduates embarked on a procession from the school’s premises to the Old Barrier, and the SCC Junction along the main Kasoa-Mallam Road, amid brass band music, singing and dancing to thank God for their success in the 2015 BECE.

According to Mrs Hamilton, discipline started from birth, and that it was incumbent upon parents to start disciplining their children when they were born, adding that when that was done, it became part of the life of the child.

Good ambassadors

She charged the students to be good ambassadors of the school wherever they found themselves.

The Head of Safety Performance Centre at the Driver, Vehicle and Licensing Authority, Mr Augustine Baidoo, said the choices and decisions made by the students would go a long way to affect their lives in future.

“As the stars never struggle to shine, may you also never struggle to shine all the days of your lives,” he told the graduates.

At the event, the 10 students who had ones in all the nine subjects at the BECE, the outgoing prefects, as well as some teachers, were honoured with various presents. The prizes given to the teachers included cash, flat screen television and table top fridges.

Mrs Hamilton also swore in the new executive of the school’s old students association. They included Dr Michael Quaye, President and Mr Kwame Bamfo Asante, Vice President.
