Don’t be alarmed over SHS placements - GES admonishes parents, candidates

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has urged parents not to habour  any fears about the placement of this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates into senior high schools and technical institutes.

The Director of the Secondary Education Division of the GES, Mr Michael Inkoom, said even though the release of the BECE results has delayed, “there is no cause for alarm”, as the placement exercise was expected to begin immediately.

Speaking in an interview with the Junior Graphic, Mr Inkoom said once the CSSPS Secretariat received the raw scores of the BECE candidates, the placement process would begin.

He said once the placements were done, GES would meet and come out officially as to when the freshers would report to school for the beginning of the academic year.

A total of 460,930 candidates wrote this year’s BECE across the country. They were made up of 239,898 males and 221,031 females.

The GES has declared a total of 516,867 vacancies in senior high schools and technical institutes for the placement of this year’s BECE candidates.

According to the regional breakdown of vacancies, the Ashanti Region has the highest number of vacancies of 130,512 followed by the Eastern Region with 81,442 and the Greater Accra Region with 53,817 vacancies. 

The others are: Volta Region, 56,051; Brong Ahafo Region, 51,435; Central Region, 50,931; Western Region, 35,050; Northern Region, 27,447; Upper East, 16,435 and Upper West Region, 13,747 vacancies.
