Deputy Western Regional Minister, Alfred Ekow Gyan gave the advice when he visited candidates in Takoradi schools to encourage them to do their best in the examination.

He distributed a total of 1,152 mathematical sets to candidates in more than 12 basic schools.

The schools include the Bethel Methodist Junior High School, Badu Addo JHS, New Takoradi Methodist and Catholic schools, Presby JHS, Roman Cathedral JHS, NAV West JHS, Anglican JHS, Kosa Complex JHS, Bishop Essuah JHS, Poasi Methodist JHS,  Dr. Wekkie JHS and Air Force JHS.

Mr. Gyan said one of the critical moments in the lives of everybody who availed himself or herself of tutelage or professional training is examination after years of learning.

“I can see you all smiling with visible signs of anxiety but let me tell you it takes courage and determination to ensure that you come out successful. Do not panic when you get to your examination centre,” he said.

“I must also remind you that in the examination hall, it is between you and the examination paper, do away with any foreign material, which if discovered will lead to your disgrace and that of your family, destroy the future and rob the country of your future contribution to development”, he said.

He reminded them that, it was the aim of every family that their children would return from the examination without any incident and to later be crowned with good grades.

The Deputy Minister who is an aspiring parliamentary candidate for the Takoradi constituency on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress, shared his personal school time experiences with the pupils.

He told them that throughout his career, he did not resort to any short-cut to examination success at any level, but that “It took us hard work and determination to arrive at where we are today. It is your turn now to make your parents and the nation proud by doing your best.”

He urged them to be confident in this critical moment, learn, rest and pray for retentive memories and pay attention to all the rules that govern the examination.

“Your teachers might have told you many things about how to conduct yourselves in the examination hall, and the examination officials will also add their voice to what they expect of you. Do your best and expect the best,” he said.

He added, “Among you here are engineers, teachers, journalists, lawyers, great entrepreneurs, politicians, presidents and vice-presidents.”

The Deputy Minister also called on parents to take keen interest in their children’s academic work, including the examination and not to leave them to their fate after paying their fees.

Officials of the schools visited expressed gratitude to the Deputy Minister for his support and words of encouragement.
