Delay in posting students reduces contact hours

The Headmaster of Accra Academy, Mr Samuel Ofori-Adjei, has urged the Computerised School Selection and Placement (CSSPS) Secretariat to post students who gain admission to senior high schools (SHS) early in order to prevent them from missing out on class hours.

According to him, the late release of the postings had reduced contact hours between teachers and first-year students considerably, a situation that could affect the performance of the students.

“In Accra Academy for instance, for the 2015/2016 academic year, we had our full complement of students in late November which was the tail end of the term,’’ he said.

He was speaking at a speech and prize-giving day organised by the school on its premises in Accra last Saturday.

The ceremony, which was used to reward 40 students for excelling academically, is part of activities to commemorate the school’s 85th anniversary celebrations which will be held in July, 2016.

The event was also used to inaugurate a new entrance to the school constructed by the 1985 Year Group of the school.

Secondary education

Mr Ofori-Adjei called on all stakeholders to help promote secondary education because it was a crucial element in national development, adding that “personnel who man the sector must be properly trained, funds must be released on time for the execution of programmes.’’

Flood

Speaking on some of the challenges facing the school, he mentioned that the school was prone to perennial flooding owing to lack of a good drainage system along the Kaneshie-Odorkor highway.

He, therefore, appealed to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to construct a storm drain at the said location to remedy the situation.
