It said it was concerned about the news that SHS in the three regions might not be able to start the academic year on schedule due to delays in receiving their feeding grants.

A statement signed by Dr Hakeem Wemah, Chairman of NDF, said it was common knowledge that northern Ghana "is lagging behind the rest of the country in many educational indicators.”

“It is for this and other reasons that we would appreciate very much, if the current situation is addressed with all the seriousness that it deserves in order to prevent a seemingly bad situation from getting worse,” it said.

The statement said the NDF had observed that the problem was perennial and wondered how such administrative lapses continued to persist.

“We are, therefore, appealing to the relevant state institutions, particularly the Ministry of Education, GETFund, Ministry of Finance and the scholarship secretariat, to work together to solve the current problem,” it added.

It said students should not be made to go through such needless suffering or be disadvantaged because of administrative actions or inaction.

The statement said the forum was ready to engage all stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the challenge.
