DCE wants reading habits cultivated

Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, District Chief Executive for Gomoa West, has suggested to the Ghana Education Service to create a place on the school timetable for reading.

Mr Aidoo-Mensah, who made the suggestion when he inaugurated a library at Apam, said reading is the key to quality education and that many students failed examinations because they could not read and understand the questions they were supposed to answer.

The construction of the library was started by Mr Joe Hackman, former Member of Parliament for Gomoa West and was completed by the Gomoa West Assembly with support from Apam citizens residing in London.

He commended the Apam citizens for their contributions to the library and for shipping a consignment of books meant for the facility.

Mr Hackman said it was his wish that children in the constituency would be able to read and understand what they learnt and appealed to teachers to give reading their priority attention.

Ms Florencen Nkum, Gomoa West Director of Education, commended the former MP and the district assembly for providing the facility.

She appealed to philanthropists, the assembly and the communities to provide mobile libraries in the communities. — GNA
