Prof. S. N. Odai, Pro-Vice Chancellor of KNUST

DANIDA supports research, postgraduate education at KNUST

The second phase of a project aimed at enhancing quality research and promoting postgraduate education has been launched at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.

Known as Building Stronger Universities in Developing Countries (BSU II), the project, being sponsored by the Danish Government, through the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) at a cost of US1.5 million, is to focus on creating an enabling environment for high quality and relevant research and research-based education and also improve facilities of the university for research works. 

Stakeholders conference 

Launching the project at a stakeholders consultation conference at the KNUST on behalf of the  Vice Chancellor, Prof. W. O. Ellis, the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. S. N. Odai, said the two-year project would improve the university’s services and facilities and bring together researchers and research administrators from the colleges of the university to foster closer working relations between researchers and administrators. 

He said the project would also focus on agricultural and environmental management, entrepreneurship and job creation and health delivery systems.

He expressed the university’s appreciation to DANIDA for its continued support for the research project at the KNUST and assured the donors of the commitment and reediness of the university to ensure the success of the project.

Prof. R. C. Abaidoo, the Project Co-ordinator, emphasised the need for financial support and encouragement for research projects to move the country forward.
