Computers for Westland schools

Eight basic schools in the Westland Community in Accra have received 70 desktop computers to enhance the teaching and learning of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

The computers, valued at GH¢85,000, were donated by the China International Water and Electric Corporation (CWE).

The beneficiary schools included Olivet, Westwood, Wesstar, Basic Skills, Mount Holiness, University Basic, E.P and Abavana Millennium School.

The donation was in response to a request by the Assembly Member of the area, Madam Victoria Esinam Assah-Offei, to improve on the access to computers for the effective learning of ICT.

At a ceremony to present the computers, the Managing Director of CWE, Mr Xie Dahu, said the computer was an essential tool for the acquisition of information and knowledge and added that the effective use of them would be the basis of a vibrant and modern society.

He stated that the donation formed part of the company’s contribution towards government’s effort to promote ICT education among students.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Dr Alfred Oko Vanderpuje, who received the items on behalf of the schools, expressed gratitude to the donors for the computers.

Madam Assah-Offei encouraged parents to support their children in the study of ICT to enhance their skills for national development.  She emphasised that her efforts were aimed at keeping students abreast of the technological age of development.
