The donation will reinforce the study of the local language in schools as underlined in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) convention for which International Mother Language Day is celebrated on February 21, every year.

At the presentation, a member of Desiadenyo Club, Mr  Ebenezer Dzikunu, urged the schoolchildren to learn their mother tongue and to blend it with the English language to achieve total and sound education.

He suggested that the study of the Ewe language should be made a core subject in schools.

Achievements of club

Mr Dzikunu mentioned that the club had been in existence for 33 years and throughout those years it had undertaken some projects and programmes such as donations to deprived communities to meet some of their basic needs, the adoption of the Children’s Ward of the Ho Municipal Hospital, donation to brilliant, needy pupils and the establishment of an education endowment fund to help such children in the Ho municipality.

The Welfare Officer of the club, Mr Evans Mensah, said the school was in distress and it depended on the parent-teacher association and other benevolent associations to function properly.

Computer literacy

Notwithstanding the challenges, he said the school came third at the national level in the ranking of computer literacy, and commended teachers of the school for their dedication to work.

The Headmistress of the school, Mrs Beatrice Asor, expressed gratitude on behalf of the pupils and staff to Desiadenyo Club and appealed to other benevolent organisations to emulate the gesture, adding that the school was in dire need of French textbooks.

The Chairman of the School Management Committee (SMC), Togbe Robert Kwawu, also thanked the donors for their kindness and said God would replenish the source of their resources for the donation.
