The six-unit classroom block at Botoku was a special project of the Ministry of Finance and estimated at GH¢180,000, while the three-unit block for the Aveme-Amanfrom Resettlement District Assembly Junior High School, estimated at GH¢90,000, was sponsored by the GETFund

During the inauguration  on different occasions, the District Chief Executive for North Dayi, Mr Steven Daniel Timinka, expressed disappointment at the results achieved by schools in the recent Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) in the district.

He described the scoring of a 24 per cent pass by students in the district in the 2013 BECE as “unacceptable” and indicated that unlike in the past when schoolchildren studied with lanterns and candles, it was unjustifiable for children of today to continue to perform abysmally although there was electricity at their disposal.

He said vacation classes would be held for all final year students of junior high schools to enable them  to revise their lessons enough to meet the challenges of their final examinations.

In an address, the Volta Regional Minister, Mr Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, said the government was ready to serve the people and asked chiefs and the people to work together to achieve the  desired goals.

An Ambassador-designate, Ms Akua Dansua, assured them that all resources available would be mobilised towards the accelerated development of the new district.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for North Dayi, Mr George Loh, pledged that all would be done to ensure that the people  earn their share of the national cake. He gave an assurance that there was harmony among all forces of production in the district.

At Botoku, the Mankrado, Togbe Atakora VI,  said premium had been placed on education as the means to energise the socio-economic development of the nation.

At Aveme, Togbe Gasari V announced that a committee that was set up to probe the causes of abysmal performance by pupils had attributed the high failure rate to child labour, lack of parental care, patronage of wakes by schoolchildren and lack of motivation for teachers, among others.
