Inaugurating the project, the Chief Executive of COCOBOD, Mr Anthony Fofie, said the provision of the school block was an example of the continued effort by the government and COCOBOD to enhance the livelihoods of cocoa farmers.

According to him, as part of the corporate social responsibility of his outfit, COCBOD had instituted programmes that do not only seek to increase cocoa output and productivity but also promote the socio-economic well-being of the farmer.

He said some of the interventions were the construction of classroom blocks, provision of scholarships for farmers’ children and the provision of solar streetlights in cocoa-farming communities, among others.

He stressed that the scholarship scheme for farmers’ children had made it possible for many poor households to educate their children, adding that since 1996, more 45,000 awards had been given to children of cocoa farmers to enable them to complete second cycle education.
