The classroom block was constructed at a cost of GH¢178, 000, while the police quarters which would house personnel of the Konongo police was put up at a cost of GH¢268,858.

The two buildings were built with funds from the Urban Development Grant and the District Assemblies Common Fund respectively.

The school, which started in 2013 with 156 pupils, now has a population of 271.

Inauguration

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Asante-Akyem Central Municipal Area, Alhaji Braimah Boyong, who inaugurated the buildings last Thursday, urged Muslims in the area not to restrict their children to Arabic and Islamic studies, but also encourage them to pursue secular education as a means of getting them ready for the job market.

He said although Muslims were right in training their children to become knowledgeable in the Islamic religious belief, there was need also for them to pursue secular education which held the key to conventional job acquisition and professional development.

The MCE pledged to provide the school with three computers to enhance the teaching and learning of ICT.

He called on cattle owners in the area to contain their herds and not allow the animals to stray to the school compound as it would pose danger to the children and disturb teaching and learning in the school.

Police

The Konongo Divisional Commander of Police, Superintendent Ohene Boadi Bossman, commended the municipal assembly for providing the unit with accommodation which he said was a major challenge to the Police Service.

He appealed to the assembly to provide the police with more accommodation to ease their burden as some of the personnel lived under poor conditions.

In another development, the Presiding Member of the Asante Akim Central Municipal Assembly, Mr Yaw Kwakye, has encouraged the community to take full responsibility for schools in the area since the schools belonged to the people.

He said even though the structures were provided by government, communities needed to support their development as well as enforce discipline in the schools, to ensure improved performance.

Mr Kwakye made the call while in the company of the MCE to welcome some new pupils to school at Konongo.

The pupils were presented with biscuits, toffees and soft drinks to encourage them to stay in school.

Mr Kwakye asked parents to ensure that their children stay in school  and also provide their needs for them to learn without distrations.
