To help attain this, the UESTC has offered scholarships to four lecturers of COLTEK to pursue doctorate degrees and upgrade the skills of other technicians in China to help in the teaching and learning of technical subjects in the country.

MoU

The support follows a memorandum of understanding signed between the two institutions three months ago.

The Director of International Affairs and Dean of School of International Education at UESTC, Madam Julia Di, announced this at a two-day exhibition in Kumasi to showcase courses and other packages the UESTC could offer Ghanaians.

She commended Ghanaian students in China for their discipline and academic excellence through hard work, saying that placed them among the best students in the world, with many universities in China yearning to admit Ghanaian students to their institutions.

Madam Di was hopeful that her institution would, among other things, collaborate with Ghanaians to help sharpen the skills of Ghanaian lecturers in the conduct of research, which would go a long way to improve the lives of people in both countries.

Research findings

She said the UESTC would also make available their research findings to the country, as well as bring down some professors to join the lecturers in the country to undertake various researches to enhance the development of the two nations.

“We are both going to research into diverse issues, with technical education issues taking a larger chunk of the research,” she added.

Madam Di said since Ghana was developing very fast, it was necessary to upgrade the country’s human resource base so as to efficiently operate in the various facets of the economy.

She announced that the UESTC had a good collaboration with many institutions in the country and added that it would focus on senior high schools to hunt for talented students to study in China, so as to help many young people to get the opportunity to take advantage of the various programmes offered in the various universities in China.

Principal

The Principal of COLTEK, Professor Reynolds Okine, described the collaboration as laudable, saying it had come to boost the capacity of the faculty to enhance their teaching and learning activities.

He said the university was positioning itself to ensure that all lecturers upgraded themselves, as required by law.

The university runs regular, sandwich, evening and distance programmes throughout the year.
