‘Children need solid foundation at nursery, kindergarten levels’

The Ankobeahene of the Asante-Mampong Traditional Area, Nana Amoakohene-Ogyampa, has underscored the need to build a solid foundation at the nursery and kindergarten levels of education for children to improve the standard of education in the country.

He has ,therefore, urged the Ghana Education Service (GES) to ensure that qualified teachers were posted to these schools and provided with the needed educational materials, as well as the necessary incentives to enable them to work effectively for the needed results.

Nana Amoakohene-Ogyampa, known in private life as Mr Augustine Amoakohene, who is the Managing Director (MD) of Amotech, a limited liability company in Takoradi, made the observation in an interaction with this paper in Kumasi at the weekend.

Right foundation

He noted that providing children with the right foundation in education could provide them the readiness for advancement, stressing that a number of the students who had passed through both the basic and tertiary levels of education found themselves wanting because they did not get the right foundation.

He further asked the supervisory unit of the GES to intensify its operations to provide proper supervision to enhance effective management of teaching and learning, pointing out that all these efforts by the GES would come to naught without the needed supervision of teachers in schools.

Nana Amoakohene-Ogyampa said education was a catalyst for the nation’s accelerated growth and development and urged all stakeholders, including old students, Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) and the general public to assist in diverse ways to improve the quality of education in the country.
